“I am often struck by the loneliness and boredom my older patients in various long-term care facilities experience.” Dr. Steven Wengel
Retired after thirty-four years as an Omaha family physician, Steve Osborn now finds time to pursue his life long interest in magic.
Given his background it makes sense that he now blends his passions of magic and medicine to lead the club’s CARE team.
An Omaha native and member of The Omaha Magical Society, Dr. Wengel earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1981 and his medical degree in 1986 from UNMC. He did his psychiatry residency and geriatric psychiatry fellowship at UNMC and joined the UNMC faculty in 1991 as assistant professor. He was elevated to associate professor in 1998 and to professor in 2005. He was appointed interim chair in 2004 and permanent chair of the University of Nebraska Medical Center Department Of Psychiatry in 2005. He currently serves as Assistant Vice Chancellor for Campus Wellness for the University of Nebraska Medical Center.
